On Monday, February 13, the musicians from the Polish-Israeli symphony orchestra met for their first common rehearsal at the Chopin University of Music. In April, the orchestra will perform a concert as a part of the program commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
The concert by the Polish-Israeli symphony orchestra will take place on April 19 in Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. During the concert, the VIII Symphony Op. 53 “Polish Flowers” by Mieczysław Weinberg will be performed. This symphony, composed to the lyrics of Julian Tuwim’s poem under the same name, is one of the composer’s most valuable works. The audience willl also have an occasion to listen to a piece composed especially for this concert by the well-known composer Elżbieta Sikora. Invitations and tickets are required for the event.
The concert is organized by the Warsaw Ghetto Museum and has the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
The orchestra of young Polish and Israeli musicians will be led by the conductor Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, winner of the prestigious La Maestra competition in Paris (2022), Taki Alsop Fellowship Award Recipient 2022-2024 and the “Polityka Passport” award in the category of classical music (2022).
This is the first time the orchestra’s young Israeli musicians are visiting Poland. Apart from participating in rehearsals, which will last till the end of the week, they are also going to take a tour around the former Warsaw ghetto and to visit the Bersohn and Bauman Hospital where the WGM permanent exhibition is going to be presented.
Before their first rehearsal, the musicians had met with Mr. Albert Stankowski the Director of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum and also with the Israel Ambassador to Poland Mr. Yacov Libne who expressed hope that this Polish-Israeli musical project will have a positive impact on the relations between the two countries and that it will allow the young musicians to establish new, long-lasting friendships.
